Literature Text

"Class, today I would like to introduce a new transfer student." Your homeroom teacher said in a tired and sleepy voice. You sat in the back of the class by the window, smiling like an idiot at how easy it was to get Kuroko enrolled as a transfer student. After Kuroko introduced himself, as instructed by the teacher, the teacher assigned him the empty seat beside you at the back of the class. All you could do was smile like an idiot the rest of class until your lunch break. You didn't even pay attention to the lecture too much because you were too excited that you were now going to school with Kuroko.

For your lunch break you ate the lunch you made for the both of you when you felt you were being stared at. You were eating in the classroom and it was pretty full with other students, so even if you scanned the room you couldn't tell who it was, but you knew someone was definitely watching you. You took another bite of you lunch and tried to ignore the feeling. Kuroko noticed that you kept looking around the room every now and then.

"(Y/n)-san is everything alright?" He asked as he looked at your eyes darting back and forth across the room.

"No... I had a feeling- no, I suppose it's nothing." You said turning back to focus on eating your meal in peace. You could definitely hear whispering from behind you but you just ignored it, enjoying your lunch with Kuroko.

"Hey, Kuroko-kun~ Where did you transfer from?" A group of girls approached us, acting sweet, innocent, and cute. And you didn't mean acting for no reason. Any new guy was prey for them to try their charm on. It was like a game to them and it irritated you. From the group stepped out Naomi. 'Of course you would be with that crowd,' you thought.

"(Y/n)-chan~ why didn't you tell me you knew the transfer student?" Naomi said trying to look hurt for not informing her. You didn't want her to know and you had perfectly good reasons for it. You just stared at her with an unamused expression.

"Dunno." You said simply. "I just barely met him recently but he's a gr-" Naomi cut you off by ignoring you and giving you an uninterested face. She turned to Kuroko and put on the brightest smile she possibly could as the other girls lingered around Kuroko.

"Eh? So Kuroko-kun hasn't known (y/n)-chan for a long time?" She said in an almost childish voice. "Then I can be Kuroko-kun's friend, too!" Naomi said clinging to Kuroko's arm as if her life depended on it, the other girls gathering around him and saying they could be his friend too. You couldn't tell if Kuroko was irritated or not because he had an expressionless face. "C'mon Kuroko-kun~ (y/n)-chan is always busy with school stuff anyways so she won't have time for you." She said in the most innocently sweet voice she could make.

"Actually-" You tried to speak up but you were just ignored by the group of girls.

"And besides," she said whispering seductively in his ear. "I'm ten times more popular and beautiful than anyone in this school." Your blood was boiling now at their horrid intentions. They had slept with almost every guy in the school and you weren't about to let them play around with Kuroko like that. You stood up abruptly as the group was surrounding Kuroko, your (e/c) eyes filled with rage.

"Naomi." You said in an icy tone. "Stop this right now." You said shooting her a piercing death glare. The girls turned pale at seeing you so angry that you almost looked like you would murder them all on the spot. No one had ever seen you this pissed off, you usually showed no emotion and didn't care how they acted around most guys. Now was different and it enraged you to see them go after Kuroko.

"What's wrong (y/n)-chan? I was just doing you a favor." She said trying to keep up her innocent girl act. "I can be Kuroko-kun's friend instead because you can never keep a friend for long anyways. You're too busy feeling sorry for yourself just because you don't have a mo—"

"Shut up." You said in a low, deadly tone as you gritted your teeth in anger. Your hands were in tight fists as you stood in your place. She would always say these things to you but it never bothered you. Now she was saying this in front of Kuroko and this time it stirred the anger and frustration in you more than ever before. Words couldn't even describe how you were feeling at the moment.

"Awww~ (y/n)-chan is angry with me again." She said with a fake whine, she didn't really care. In fact, this is how she tried to keep you in your place because she knew you were wealthy and attractive but she knew how to make you how you were before: depressed, uninterested, quiet, antisocial, and alone. You were like that but it's as if Kuroko was starting to change all those negative characteristics.

You stormed out of the classroom, unable to tolerate any more. You ran down the hall and up the stairs to the third floor to the roof access of the school, tears starting to form in your eyes out of how frustrated you were.

"Boo~ She's no fun." Naomi said with a pout on her lips after you left. She had a smirk on her face, she had gotten what she wanted. Again. "See Kuroko-kun?" She turned to face Kuroko with an innocent smile. "She obviously—" She stopped mid sentence to stare at the empty seat where Kuroko sat just seconds before. "Hey, where'd he go?" As expected from the phantom player, Kuroko had slipped out of the class unnoticed as he left to find you.

After looking all over the school he finally found where you had ran off to. You were sitting against the wall, next to the door to exit the roof of the school, with your knees pulled up to your chest as you sat staring off into space. You didn't seem to notice him standing there as he was panting and breathless from running around the whole school to find you.

"(Y/n)-san?" Kuroko said as he kneeled down in front of you so his eyes could meet yours. "Are you alright?" You sighed in response.

"Yeah. I just needed to punch something before I ended up punching them in the face." You said as you hid your bloodied fists in your coat pockets. Kuroko looked at the wall behind you to see the deep holes in the wall you had created. He laughed softly at how you dealt with your pent up frustration.

"I didn't like those girls anyways. They irritated me." He said as he pulled you up.

"Really? It's hard to tell since you looked pretty indifferent back there." You said dusting yourself off.

"Eh? I did?" You just laughed to how he didn't notice that he showed no emotion around them at the time. 'Weird.' You thought. 'It feels like he shows more emotion in front of me. He's usually always smiling and with a kind expression on his face.' This confused you but you didn't let it bother you.

"(Y/n)-san, let me take you to the infirmary." He said opening the door to leave the roof with you behind him, inspecting your own bloodied and damaged knuckles. You frowned as you started feeling the familiar feeling of pain now spreading in your hand.
The bell rang signaling the end of your lunch break. You groaned in annoyance.

"It's fine. We need to get back to class anyways." You said heading down the steps. Kuroko stopped you as you arrived to the last step of the stairs.

"(Y/n)-san, you need to get your hands treated." He said looking at you seriously, crossing his arms over his chest to show he wouldn't let you pass.

"Don't wanna." You said pouting. "I'm fine really. Just a few scratches here and there." You started walking past him heading back to class but he grabbed your wrist.

"Wha—?" The next instant you were picked up. You were very light so Kuroko had no problem. "H-Hey! Put me down!" You said blushing as he carried you bridal style heading for the infirmary.

"No." He said staring into your (e/c) eyes with his firm blue ones. "(Y/n)-san, if you won't listen I'll take you myself by whatever means necessary." You gave up arguing with him and just clung onto his shirt as you were carried to the infirmary through the deserted and dead-silent halls.

At the infirmary Kuroko treated your wounds himself because the nurse was missing from the room. You just stared at the floor in silence as he bandaged your hands with careful hands. Everything Naomi had said and done played back in your memory and you unconsciously clenched your fists, the resulting pain reminding you of your injuries.

"All done, (y/n)-san. Please try not to move your hands too much." He said finishing up wrapping the wounds on your fists.

"Thanks Kuroko. You didn't have to." You kept your eyes on the floor, not wanting to look him in the eyes. You felt arms wrap around you and the next thing you knew you were engulfed in Kuroko's embrace. You stood there shocked, unsure of what to do or what was happening.

"Everything those girls said, it hurt you didn't it?" Kuroko said into your ear as he hugged you tightly. "I thought they made you cry and it made me furious." He said and you felt his beating heart against you from how tightly he was holding you. You felt like yours was about to burst out of your own chest and you wondered if he could feel it. "Don't listen to them," he said in a soft soothing tone as his face was buried in the crook of your neck. You nodded and felt your eyes start to water, your vision blurred as you held back the tears. It felt like time went by ever so slowly as he held you in his arms, comforting you and giving you a feeling of security, someone to depend one.

~time skip~

It had been a couple of weeks since you found Kuroko and started going to school with him, yet it felt like you had already known him for years. You had already grown accustomed to him living with you and he was the closest friend you had. It was as if you two had forgotten he had appeared out of nowhere just a few weeks back and you had long since given up on figuring out how it all happened. The days were getting colder as winter neared even more.

It was after school and the two of you were headed home, nothing unusual. Naomi and the group of girls would bother you every now and then but with Kuroko's lack of presence he would sneak you away. They still irritated him and he still remembered how they made you furious a while back. Musubi had been on a trip with her parents which explains why she wasn't there for a while but you thought it made things easier since you only had to deal with Naomi for now. That aside, you were preparing to go home and you were going down the hall with Kuroko, headed to the school entrance gate to head home. You stopped in your tracks and remembered you forgot to pick up a book you were required to read for your English homework. You didn't remember where you left it, though, so you would have to go look for it.

"Kuroko, I forgot a book I need for English. You go ahead and head home ahead of me. You have my spare key right?" You told Kuroko, hoping he didn't get upset that you couldn't walk home with him.

"I'll go with you if you want, (y/n)-san." He said stopping in his tracks.

"No, it's fine. Actually I can't remember where it is so I'll have to look for it." You said a little embarrassed. "Besides, Number 2 has been waiting all day for you to come home so you should go." He just stared at you, debating if he should let you go home alone. "I'll be fine, I promise. If anything happens you have the cell phone I bought you right? So I'll call you if anything happens." Kuroko still looked unconvinced but eventually agreed. He left the school and you stayed behind to begin your search for the book.

It didn't even take you long to find it because it was at your desk in class where you forgot it. 'I made him leave and it only took me like 5 minutes to look for it.' You thought feeling guilty for making Kuroko leave without you. You shoved the book in your backpack and out on your scarf to put on and start heading home. As you exited the school you saw a fog was rolling down from the mountains again and it was pretty cold out already. You walked home through the empty streets. Everyone had gone home already so you were walking alone, again. You felt weird walking alone since you were used to being in the company of Kuroko. You were so lost in thought that once you realized it, the fog was already over the city and was surrounding you, leaving what lay beyond you a mystery.

You ignored it at first but then the memory of what happened the day you met Kuroko popped into your mind. The memory of the unconscious and injured boy, the screeching of tires, the frantic barking of Number 2, everything flooded back into your mind in that instance. You couldn't even think straight and your body automatically started running through the path you took to your house. 'What if something happens to him in the fog?' That question circled through your mind as you frantically ran trying to find him to make sure he was safe. "Kuroko!" You called out his name desperately as you tried searching for him in the thick fog. "Kuroko!!!" Still no sign of him. You were on the verge of tears as you ran ahead through the fog. You were about to give up as your legs were weak from so much running, until you saw a faint figure in the distance. You ran toward it, hoping it was Kuroko. As you approached the figure you saw the figure was indeed a teenage boy but he was taller than Kuroko. You couldn't tell if it was him or not because his back was to you. "Kuroko?" You said as you waited for him to turn around. The boy stopped abruptly in his tracks and turned to face the one who questioned him. You saw his face and your eyes grew wide in shock.

One thing was for sure, it wasn't Kuroko.
